Savings Experiment: Vacuums That Won't Clean Out Your Wallet

On the flip side, bagless models can be messy. When you're removing the dirt canister to dump it into the trash, there's nothing to contain all the dust, dirt and debris. So you end up dispersing all the loose particles into the air, "which can be an irritant," Christine Frietchen, editor in chief of ConsumerSearch.com , a review aggregator that compares product ratings from expert and user reviews, told WalletPop. • ConsumerSearch.com recommends the Hoover cordless stick vac BH50010 . At a cost of about $140, it's one of the pricier ones on the market. However, it works well on hard floors and also on carpeting -- unusual for a stick vac -- because of its powered brush roll, while weighing in at just about 7 pounds. One drawback? The wide nozzle can be tough to use in small spaces. The Dyson, which ranges in price from about $400 to $600, masterfully set itself apart in the vacuum business by marketing its cyclonic technology as superior to those of other models. While the Dyson vacuum works well, some experts point to the Hoover WindTunnel + Cyclonic, for one, as a comparable model that does as good a job as the Dyson. And for about $200, it costs a lot less, too. ftebubbaarmy

I have to jump in one more time. The rainbow is the best. Everyone talking about owning cleaning services and working at repair shops have never seen the full demostration of the Rainbow. Three simple tests will prove it. There is a test where you put a stretch a cloth over the hose end on the exhaust port. Vacuum anything you like, look at the cloth on the Rainbow verses any other brand with same test. All brands will show dirt passing through, and the ones that dont, have already plugged up their bag or hepa filter and do not have any suction left. Second test is a bright spotlight showing the dust in the air, like you see when the sun shines through your window. The third test is hooking the Rainbow directly to any other vacuum, hose to hose. Turn both vacs on and watch. Rainbow will always win, even on the Kirby, it will suck Kirby's bag flat. Wet dust/dirt will not fly and Rainbow will maintain full suction. All othe brands will lose suctuion as the bag, reusable filter,or hepa filter plugs up. Rainbow will also run circles around the Dyson. Anyone that tells you different than me, has not seen a full proper Rainbow demo, or they have a vested interest in the sales of other brands. If Rainbow was to ever go full retail, lower their price, and maintain the quality, they would dominate the vacuum business hands down.

GHRI recommends Eureka's Boss SmartVac Pet Lover, which costs about $160, for its "superb pickup from all floor types" and the fact that it doesn't tip over when you're using the hose. Cons: It's heavy, and the motor is loud. (The GHRI-ranked vacuums

Eureka 4870MZ Boss Smart-Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaner Description

Let’s face it. Most vacuums just don’t cut it when it comes to really cleaning a home or office. Pesky pet hair embeds deeper in carpet than traditional vacuums go; bits and pieces of tracked-in dirt and debris hunker down under floor trim just out of reach of the latest brush innovations, rendering us to the silliness of handpicking behind that expensive vacuum, filling our pockets with lint, and wondering–who’s really the boss? Troubles like these made the folks at Eureka get down and dirty and, ultimately, design the Boss Smart-Vac Upright Vacuum. Offering powerful performance for everyday household cleaning, the Eureka Boss is the solution for people who insist on having a truly clean home. The Boss’s Direct Air Control System features an air selector switch that lets you direct all suction either deep into the carpet or to the hose for easy above-the-floor cleaning. The Power Paw brush makes it easy to clean stairs and upholstery, and even claws up embedded pet hair, so Fido can spend more time inside. The motorized brush lets you go from carpet to bare-floor cleaning with the flick of a switch. The Boss Smart-Vac is powered by a beefy, 12-amp motor that provides plenty of suction power for deep-cleaning carpets, and leaves nothing behind on hard floors.

Pretty smart, right? Well, here’s the really smart part. The Boss Smart-Vac isn’t just the best household carpet- and floor-cleaning vacuum on the market; it’s also equipped with a unique, sealed, HEPA filtration system that captures 99.97 percent of dust, pollen, allergens, and bacteria. So, vacuuming the house doesn’t mean you have to dust afterward, or sneeze while you’re doing it. Cleaner carpets and cleaner indoor air at the same time!

Plus, the Boss comes loaded with user-friendly features to take the frustration out of vacuuming. A wide 15-inch cleaning path covers a lot of ground quickly before company comes. In addition, the exclusive dust trap system captures debris and dust in three stages. A handy stretch hose extends to five times its original length for reaching around furniture and sucking the cobwebs off the ceiling. And, a 30-foot cord won’t leave you coming up short.
