When I think back to the several grocery trips my mom made each week when I was young, or the number of times I heard “No” from my dad after asking if I could have another candy bar, I can’t help but wish I would have had a Tot Spot to play in while my parents did the grocery shopping! Often, when parents bring their child to a Skogen’s Festival Foods Tot Spot for the first time, we hear the parent say, “Wow, I wish I would have tried this a long time ago!” To my surprise, I have even learned that some guests have assumed we charge a fee to use the Tot Spot as a supervised area for kids to play while parents shop. Of course, we are always excited to explain how the Tot Spot works and see a mom or dad’s excitement upon realizing the Tot Spot is a free service we offer our guests!

Although parents are still discovering the Tot Spot, it has actually been around for longer than some may know! In fact, our Tot Spot opened in 1989 when the Festival Foods package was sold to the Skogen family. Over the years, the Tot Spot has rapidly gained popularity among our little guests.

As more families continue to use the Tot Spot for their shopping convenience, our associates have become more creative and involved with the children who visit. An example of this is the extra effort many of our Tot Spot attendants have recently put forth into having quick and easy crafts available for children to create during their stay at the Tot Spot. Earlier this month, all of our Tot Spot locations featured cow crafts to correspond with June as Dairy Month. Several children took pride in knowing their “Paper Plate Cows” were to be displayed in the store for all to see. During certain times of the year when crafts are not displayed throughout the store, children often choose to post their colored picture in the Tot Spot or take their creations home with them. We have found that many children enjoy nothing more than leaving the Tot Spot with something they made for Mom or Dad. Seeing those bright smiles exit the Tot Spot is what encourages us to continue doing all we can to keep our little guests coming back.

Whether you find it easier to get your shopping done while your child is in a supervised play area, or your kids would rather play than make a trip throughout the grocery store, the Tot Spot often provides a more enjoyable shopping experience for all.
