Matt Stutzman can type with his toes. He uses his feet to eat and steer a car, change a tire in 33 seconds and install new brakes.
Stutzman was born with no arms.
He is also one of the top archers in Iowa.
"My feet became my hands," Stutzman said. "I had to learn that or do nothing in my life."
The 28-year-old from Fairfield has become a sensation in the last few weeks, appearing on TV spots, YouTube videos and national websites. One day, he got 300 emails from around the world.
Several bow manufacturers have lined up to give him thousands of dollars of their top equipment.
And he has found a purpose.
"I realize I can affect people's lives," he said.
Staying on target

Put simply: He picks up an arrow with his toes, places it on the string, grabs the bow between his big toe and second toe, lifts it until his leg makes a frog-like angle so the string can reach his shoulder, where a trigger release is strapped. "My leg is stronger than anyone's arms so I can hold it steady longer," said Stutzman, who finished second in the Iowa State Archery Association indoor championships in March.
He was selected for the U.S. Paralympic team and will shoot to break a Guinness world record in the coming months by piercing a 9-inch balloon from 220 yards.
"I drive a car without modifications and use the same bows as any other competitor. Nothing in my life has been modified," he said. "I modify to it, rather than it modify to me."
That philosophy was learned early in life.
Under his own steam
He was born in Kansas City in 1982. Doctors had no explanation why the otherwise healthy boy didn't have arms. His birth parents were overwhelmed by his disability and placed him for adoption at four months.
Leon and Jean Stutzman of Kalona adopted Matt at 13 months and by 18 months he had learned to walk and feed himself.
