'True Blood' blog: Episode 37, 'She's Not There'

Sookie does her "light-throwing" thing which somehow transfers everyone to a desert and turns the fairies into mean creatures who chase after Sookie -- and her grandfather, who randomly is here as well. Sookie barely escapes, eluding lightning bombs that looked as though they were special effects taken from a Syfy original movie (sorry, "True Blood," but you've done better). Sookie and her Grandaddy land back at the Bon Temps cemetery where Grandaddy prompty croaks. Dramatically. We also see Sookie's first interactions (post-fairy) with Bill and Eric, who both rush to see her. It's clear Sookie still has lingering feelings for Bill, who plays it cool. Eric on the other hand is all pushy and says "I knew you were alive" and returns to flirtation mode until Bill tells him to quit it. Hmm, Bill has that power now? We find out more later. As Sookie readjusts to Bon Temps, we catch glimpses of the rest of the main cast. My favorite revisit was with -- of course -- my favorite couple: Hoyt and Jessica. They're still together! But fight! Like a real couple! Well, like a real vampire-human couple. You know, there's issues involving Jessica not cooking for Hoyt because food makes her ill (and she doesn't eat food) and Hoyt having to contend with having his blood drained by her mouth. Stuff like that. I was also happy to see Jesus and Lafayette together. Witch-human couples can be happy, too! A particular effective scene was when we meet Marnie (an awesome Fiona Shaw), the head of a witch coven Jesus wants Lafayette to experience. When she first meets Lafayette, Marnie is overtaken by a spirit ... and talks to Lafayette in the voice of Eddie, the sad vampire that once supplied Lafayette with V and was killed by Jason and his ex-girlfriend. Creepy to see you again, Eddie! And a scary introduction to Marnie, who seems somewhat benevolent so far but is clearly being set up to be some sort of "villain" this year. Seeing what Bill and Eric (right, photo by HBO) are up to was certainly interesting. Before we discover that Bill is the new vampire king (living in Russell's old mansion and everything), we see him in full small-town politican mode -- opening a senior-citizen community center in a politician-y three-piece suit. There also seems to be something going on between him and lawyer Portia Bellefleur (Courtney Ford, who starred in Season 4 of "Dexter").

I purchased a 12V squirrel cage blower ($16 delivered, 26 CFM), 12V 2A power supply (Ebay $4.99) and built a Radio Shack 12V voltage regulator from an LM317 adjustable regulator to slow down the fan that worked too well (faucets dripping with condensation) and was a bit noisy ( http://www.rigacci.org/docs/biblio/online/voltreg/fan-regulator/tutorial-full.html ). I carefully soldered (not too much heat) the LM317 to the back of the potentiometer to act as a built in heatsink. I used 1/8” foil backed adhesive insulation (Frost King from Lowes) to line the inside of the tower with two layers to keep it from sweating. Only a very small area around the back of the faucets is exposed. I should measure the voltage and recommend just purchasing the low voltage power supply to save the $10 regulator expense and wasted electricity (heat from the linear voltage regulator).
