Gas Price Calculator -- Is It Worth It?

Warning: This took a lot of time and resulted in a few gray hairs, but we're trying to explain the formula in the easiest way possible. Follow along.
You first have to figure out 5 variables:
1 - Miles per gallon for your car (a)
2 - Size of your car's gas tank (b)
3 - Price at gas "station A" (c)
4 - Price at gas "station B" (d)
5 - Distance roundtrip to gas "station B" (e)
THEN....
You have to figure the total cost of trip, the difference in fill-up price and the total savings from the trip to figure out if its worth it.
** To figure that total cost - Figure out the number of gallons used for the trip. Consider half filled with "Station A" gas and the other half filled with "Station B" gas. We'll call that (x).
** To figure the difference in fill-up price - Take the total gallons per tank times both gas stations prices. Subtract the difference. We'll call that (y).
FINALLY...substract (x) and (y) to get the total saving from the trip. If the number is positive, you've spent more money than you've saved. If it is negative, you've saved money.
If you have a 15 gallon tank (b) and your car gets 20 miles to the gallon (a), you'll spend about $10 (x) on a 60-mile (e) trip from Winston-Salem to Greensboro.
The cheaper gas will only save you $4.05 (y) if you are on empty when you get there. That means you're actually out $6 (x-y) for all your effort.
To make the drive worth it, the round-trip drive to the gas station (d) needs to be less than 25 miles.
