Chalk up one more good reason why more folks should nominate their domiciles for Home of the Week: it's a terrific excuse to tidy up!
Vern is the owner of the 20-year-old, Baltimore-based firm Seabridge International, which specializes in roll-on and roll-off shipments of cars, freight and you-name-it worldwide. He also owns the SeaSide Restaurants in Glen Burnie and Pasadena. Vern's home is in Severna Park, part-way down a long twisting roadway. When he became single again in the mid-1990s, Vern lived the urban, urbane lifestyle in Fells Point, Baltimore, for four years. He was accompanied by his two then-teenaged daughters. Nicole Caprice is now 30 and has children of her own, Reece and Colton. Danielle Smeehuyzen is now 27.
Eventually, Vern decided he wanted the water views without the noise, traffic and tourists. "I always wanted to own a house on the Severn," he said. "I started driving down every dirt road on both sides of the Severn. In the county tax office, I'd go look up the records on undeveloped parcels. I'd call the owners and ask if they were interested in selling. I did this for two years."
One day, he rounded a curve and spotted a "For Sale" sign posted on a hill. It was not far from the bustle of Ritchie Highway, but far enough to be bucolic. Behind the sign was a wooded lot with two crumbling shacks that had served as summer cottages. Vern bought it. That was just the beginning.
Building a dreamSince he built his company from the ground up, Vern decided to do the same with his house. He burrowed into the local library's collection of luxury home and design books. He took notes and made freehand sketches, which he turned into mechanical drawings. Working with an architect, numerous changes were made in order to gain permitting approval on the building project.
At the same time, he haunted home builders' shows. He envisioned a "smart green" home. His plans show a house that has no footers. It was constructed on a thick bed of immovable gravel. The pre-manufactured foundation walls were lowered by a mobile crane onto the gravel and bolted firmly together. The home's exterior wall insulation is a gooey paste shot into bladders placed inside the walls which expanded to fill in every cranny and nook, sealing the house. He selected top-of-the-line wooden windows with the highest available energy rating at the time from the Wisconsin-based company Hurd. "My energy bills are comparable to a two- or three-bedroom townhouse," said Vern.
Self Sealing Bolts - News

Vern Martin's self-proclaimed title as "King of Clutter" didn't keep The Capital's crew from touring his lovely waterfront home in Severna Park recently. "This house is as tidy as it's ever been," Vern exclaimed as he threw open the door on his

The Stalwart System i.e. Bolts Are Really Fun - Relay Station Bravo
A player with more Self-Sealing Stem Bolts is proportionately more cool than a player with less Self-Sealing Stem Bolts. You can gain Self-Sealing Stem Bolts in a variety of ways, and you can lose them as well. Some are automatic, some are at the GMs discretion, and others, because the GM is bored. People who are not members of the crew may not collect Self-Sealing Stem Bolts, making you infinitely cooler than all of them. All players will start on the simm with two (2) Self-Sealing Stem Bolts. A player without any Self-Sealing Stem Bolts exists, but only barely. Losing Self-Sealing Stem Bolts when you already do not have any, is much like being voted off the island, or deemed the weakest link, and told good-bye. The way the system is devised, it should be nearly impossible to run out of Self-Sealing Stem Bolts, but I retain the right to completely disregard the BARF system if it fails to generate the appropriate outcomes. Participation - Participating in a mission will earn you a Self-Sealing Stem Bolt. Participation is not defined by having made a post during the mission, but having played a recognizable part in it. This generally means you have made multiple posts during a mission, ideally interacting with players and the main plot. If you are unable to make a sufficient contribution to it, you are probably losing bolts for inactivity, so granting you participation bolts would be silly. Achievements - Posting achievements are each worth a single Self-Sealing Stem Bolt. Each achievement may be accomplished by any number of players, but each player may only succeed in completing an achievement once. Because the GM loves wit and humor, if a player can come up with a suitably witty name for an achievement that does not exist that they qualify for, that the GM agrees should exist, the achievement will be added, and the player will be awarded that achievement. Additionally, a player may qualify for an achievement based on either literal or intended meanings of an achievements requirements. Humiliating the GM - The GM is perfect. The GMs logic is relentless and infallible. If you catch an uncaught grammar, spelling, continuity, or factual error in the GMs posts either IC or OOC, you will earn a Self-Sealing Stem Bolt. Posts made via a mobile device (which will be indicated within the post) are not eligible to be criticized for spelling or grammar.
