KU offensive coordinator facing lawsuit in California | KUsports.com
Kansas University offensive coordinator Chuck Long, formerly the head coach at San Diego State, has been accused by a former player of negligent supervision regarding a fight between teammates and is facing a civil lawsuit in the matter, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Former Aztec Nick Sandford, a safety, alleges he was assaulted by teammate Lance Louis at a team meeting in November 2008. The Tribune report indicates that Long informed SDSU staff members “not to report the attack to law enforcement or university officials.”
The newspaper also reported that Sandford suffered a concussion, a ruptured eardrum and facial injuries from the attack. The suit seeks unspecified damages from both Long and the California State University system.
Louis, now an offensive lineman with the Chicago Bears, is facing misdemeanor assault charges.
Long was not available for comment Thursday, but Jim Marchiony, KU associate athletic director for external relations, said: “This is a matter between an individual and the California State University system. We have no comment and plan to let the legal system play out.”
Right, what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room. Didn't we just fire a coach for ethical issues? I imagine we are going to see some Turner Gil bandwagon hypocrites on this issue today. All this ethical this, ethical that, this stuff happens everywhere, it's unavoidable.
Man I hope at some point I can stop being so pissed about Mangino getting canned.
leikness said : "Love the excuses rolling out...the accusations say that he asked staff to cover up an assault. Seems to me that's a bit more damming than making some dude do bearcrawls"
Mark, is that you? Where are ya, big guy? Still a tad bitter, I can see.
In all seriousness, get over it. This has nothing to do with Gill or KU. Take your pathetic agenda defending a last-place coach elsewhere.
This is ridiculous. This stuff does happen all the time. The severity of the beat down is important, but if the kid thought it should be reported then he should have reported it. All Long did was tell his staff it's not their place to report it. That's all. If the kid reported it and got punished by the coaching staff for doing so, then he has a case for civil suit. Otherwise handle your business and don't blame other people 2 years later for not acting for you. The kid doesn't say anything about getting orders to not report it, he just says the staff was ordered not to. Teams always handle this stuff in house and what this story needs is some eye witnesses and staff statements to clear everything up.
