Nine Injured in Single-Vehicle Accident on I-4 Near ChampionsGate
A black 2000 Ford Excursion overturned when one of the right tires burst while traveling eastbound on I-4 around noon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The accident happened near mile marker 57.
When the tire burst the vehicle rotated counterclockwise into the grass median, according to the FHP. It then overturned and came to a stop on top of the guardrail.
Emergency vehicles closed down the westbound lanes to get to the accident.
Alcohol was not reported as being a factor in the accident. One of the passengers was not wearing a seat belt.
Benjamin Castillano, 26, of Laredo, Texas, Lourdes C. Hernandez Jr., 15, of Wimauma and Lazeyda Villa, 22, of Laredo were transported by air rescue to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to the Osceola County Fire Rescue. Bobby Villa of Laredo was also taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Laredo residents Carlos Villa, 18, and Alfredo Villa, 47, were transported to Florida Hospital-Celebration Health.
The driver, Lourdes C. Hernandez, 49, of Wimauma refused transportation. Luis F. Castillo, 17, of Laredo and Jazelyn Monsivais, 10, of Riverview also did not go to the hospital.
None of the injuries were fatal or critical.
Passengers could not be reached for comment.
The interstate was clear in both directions by 2:26 p.m.
