Carlos Zambrano doesn't appear to be on Yankees' radar for a trade

CHICAGO — As the All-Star break approaches, the trade market around baseball will begin to heat up, with teams starting the process of evaluating potential targets.

But for now, it’s too early for the Yankees to target specific players, according to a person with knowledge of the team’s thinking who requested anonymity to speak candidly.

As the July 31 trade deadline comes near, things will surely change with the Yankees. But despite reports linking them to the likes of Cubs pitchers Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster, the person with knowledge said the Yankees “are watching everyone, focused on no one.”

As for Zambrano, the Yanks don’t appear interested, even though Zambrano will wave his no-trade clause.

“Highly doubt it,” the person said, when asked whether Zambrano was in their plans.

Dempster seems to be a more likely trade target, though if today was a job interview, he failed. In a 4-3 loss, the Cubs starter lucked out, giving up three runs in 5-plus innings despite allowing 14 baserunners.

The Yankees let Dempster off the hook despite the fact he gave up eight hits and walking six.

Manager Joe Girardi said before the game it’s not a given that the Yankees acquire help via trade.

“It’s hard for me to predict what we’re going to need to do,” he said.

So far, the Yankees have enjoyed some good luck, watching retreads such as Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon give them more than expected. Meanwhile, a cast of inexperienced relievers have helped fill the void left by the injured Rafael Soriano. Unprovens such as Cory Wade and Hector Noesi, who teamed up for 1-plus scoreless innings today, have stepped up.

But Colon’s hamstring injury has offered a stark reminder about how quickly those fortunes can change.

Sports Sensors Swing Speed Radar

Small microwave Doppler radar sensor for measuring golf or baseball swing speeds Calculates clubhead or bat speed within a range of 20 to 200 miles per hour Positions about 8 to 10 inches from tee or suspends from a batting cage or net Transmission level is well within FCC requirements and prescribed safety levels Powered by 3 AA batteries; ideal for both players and coaches/instructors

The Swing Speed Radar is a small. inexpensive Doppler radar velocity sensor that measures the swing speed ofOptimize your golf or baseball swing to produce maximum distance and control with the Swing Speed Radar from Sports Sensors. The Swing Speed Radar is a small microwave Doppler radar velocity sensor that measures the swing speed of golfers and baseball/softball players. Most players know that increased swing speed corresponds to increased distance. However, over-swinging can produce poor results, as suggested by the advice, “It’s not how hard you swing, but how well you swing.” The Swing Speed Radar helps you improve both metrics by measuring your swing speed, determining the best speed for optimum performance, monitoring your swing consistency, and selecting the club or bat characteristics that best suit your swing type. Golfers can use the device to determine the optimum swing for distance, control, and accuracy, while baseball/softball players can work on honing their bat speed to create consistently solid contact. The Swing Speed Radar’s real-time velocity feedback helps players and coaches measure improvements and troubleshoot swing mechanics.

To measure golf swing speed, merely position the Swing Speed Radar in a forward location about 8 to 10 inches directly away from the tee. In baseball or softball applications, meanwhile, you can hang the device on a batting cage, pop-up net, or fence, or mount it on a tripod about 5 feet in front of or behind the player while he or she swings in the air or hits off a tee. By locating the Swing Speed Radar at a height that corresponds to the plane of the bat swing, the bat speed is measured “out front” of the batter in the hitting zone, which is where contact with the ball produces the best results. Put another way, the device measure the speed of the barrel of the bat, not the tip. This makes the Swing Speed Radar a great tool for helping you select the optimum bat size and weight for your swing.
